La comedia negra ‘The Square’, del director sueco Ruben Östlund, ganó la Palme d’Or en el Festival de Cannes.
En un competencia que, según los especialistas, ha sido mediocre, Sofia Coppola se llevó el premio a mejor director por su film ‘The Beguiled’.
‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’, de Yorgos Lanthimos, y ‘You Were Never Really Here’, de Lynne Ramsay, ganaron ambas, de forma sorpresiva, el premio a mejor guión.
Diane Kruger ganó el premio a la mejor actriz por su participación en ‘In the Fade’ y Joaquin Phoenix al mejor actor por ‘You Were Never Really Here’.
Después de socavar la figura paterna en Snow Therapy, en ‘The Square’ Ruben Östlund reflexiona sobre el altruismo y la pérdida de valores en forma de una comedia dramática cáustica.
‘The Square’ marca su debut en la competición.
El cine de Ruben Östlund ha sido en gran medida desconocido hasta que salió del anonimato en 2014 con Snow Therapy.
El largometraje, con su guión finamente afinado, ganador del Premio del Jurado en Un Certain Regard, dio una mirada irónica a una pareja en plena crisis, contra el inmaculado telón de fondo de una estación de esquí alpina golpeada por una avalancha.
Rubén Östlund es uno de esos cineastas que no duda en saltar con los dos pies en las zonas sensibles, y desde su primera película se ha fijado con el placer indiscutible de caricaturizar la pérdida gradual de los valores morales que una vez unieron nuestras sociedades.
Con ese fin, le gusta traernos personajes en situaciones que nunca esperaban enfrentar, en un acercamiento a un experimento sociológico.
Y esta es su preocupación una vez más en ‘The Square’, que narra la historia de Christian, un padre querido por sus valores humanos y por la calidad de su obra en un museo sueco de arte contemporáneo, pero cuyos principios están seriamente sacudidos por una profunda crisis existencial. Ruben Östlund describe cómo se sintió impresionado por el auge del individualismo en su país mientras trabajaba en el guión de Play (2008), que retrataba la raqueta a la que un grupo de niños cayó víctima.
Cinematográficamente hablando, el director sueco trabajó con gran detalle en la retórica de la película con el fin de «desestabilizar» al espectador.
Junto a Terry Notary y Claes Bang, la película cuenta con Dominic West, ex héroe de la serie The Wire y la actriz estadounidense Elisabeth Moss, quien también figura en el reparto de la temporada 2 de Top of The Lake de Jane Campion. (Redacción)
